  8. Experience the Tamperguard difference

The idea of changing your security bag tape supplier may not be something you would look forward to. After all, you’re invested in this relationship, and change brings with it a degree of uncertainty.

But you also know that in this industry the only way you can keep growing is to maintain your technological advantage over the competition by always offering cuttingedge security features. Your customers are buying a security product and they want the peace of mind that comes from knowing you’rsupplying the best product available

To stay ahead of the curve, you have to make sure that your tape supplier can meet your expectations. Ask them these seven questions and decide if you need to find a new supplier.

1. Does your tamper-evident tape have edge-to-edge adhesive?

Many security bags don’t, which creates an easily exploitable flaw.

You need only make a cut underneath the tape where there is no adhesive, open the bag and reseal with a few drops of glue. This can be done quickly with a razor and would not show any sign of tampering.

That’s not the case with Tamperguard’s tamper-evident tape for security bags and courier envelopes. Unlike other tamper-evident solutions on the market, our tape has adhesive from edge to edge leaving no unsealed areas

2. Does your tape void between +40°C and +60°C?

This temperature range is problematic for security bags. The heat softens the adhesive so the tape can be removed without showing signs of tampering, yet it is not high enough to trigger the thermochromic ink.

For a more detailed explanation of the limits of tamper-evident tapes that don’t void at all temperaturesclick here.

3.Does your tape come on 10,000-metre spools or 2,500-metre flat rolls?

If you’re not using larger rolls or spools of security tape, you’re missing a great opportunity to improve your operational efficiency.

Ask yourself: How long does it take you to change the tape supply on your converting machines? How many times do you change rolls per day?

In this hypothetical scenario, we’ve estimated larger rolls could easily save 12.5 hours of production stop-time per week.

4.Does your tape have water-soluble ink printed on the adhesive?

Many bags have watersoluble ink printed on the bag, but not on the adhesive.

Printing this security feature directly on the adhesive improves the protection against water-based tampering. It also protects against solvents being used to dissolve the adhesive.

Tamperguard’s level 5 security tape includes watersoluble ink on the adhesive that delivers this kind of advanced protection and also saves the bag manufacturer from having to print an additional colour.

5.Does your tape come with thermochromic ink printed between the film and the adhesive?

Thermochromic ink is commonly used to protect against tampering at temperatures above 75°C.

Applying a hotmelt adhesive on top of thermochromic ink without activating the colour change is challenging, which is why some tape suppliers don’t put adhesive there. The result is an unsealed area under the tape that can be exploited.

Not Tamperguard’s tape. Our thermochromic ink is printed between the film and the adhesive, ensuring no areas of the tape are left without adhesive.

6.Does your tape come with a perforated silicone liner for easy folding?

Tamperguard’s tape can include a perforation in the liner to make it easy to fold.

A folded silicone liner tab is the fastest way to remove the liner when sealing the bag, as seen in the photo below.

End users love this feature because it saves them valuable time.

7.Does your tape supplier siliconize their liner in-house?

Most tape manufacturers still buy pre-siliconized liners.

These liners can have several issues. If the silicone isn’t fully cured, the uncured silicone will migrate to the bag and reduce the tape’s adhesion and effectiveness.

Another issue that can occur are small pinholes of missing silicone, which make the tape look as if it’s been tampered with as soon as the liner is removed, even before the bag is sealed.

At Tamperguard, we produce our liners in-houseThis gives us full control over the quality of the silicone coating as well as the level of release. In turn, it also allows us to greatly increase the sensitivity of the void image, making our tape more secure.
